# Teen Patti Hand Rankings

Understanding Teen Patti hand rankings helps you identify a three-card combination before comparing it with another hand. Start with the category, then check the relevant card values.

This guide covers traditional categories without jokers. Use the instructions for your selected table or app mode when its rules differ.

Teen Patti Hand Rankings: Strongest to Weakest

| Rank | Hand | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trail / Trio | Three matching ranks | K♥ K♦ K♠ |
| 2 | Pure Sequence | Consecutive ranks in one suit | 9♥ 8♥ 7♥ |
| 3 | Sequence | Consecutive ranks, mixed suits | 9♥ 8♦ 7♠ |
| 4 | Color / Colour | One suit, without a sequence | A♥ J♥ 7♥ |
| 5 | Pair | Two matching ranks | Q♥ Q♦ 5♠ |
| 6 | High Card | None of the categories above | A♠ J♦ 7♣ |

A higher category beats a lower category, regardless of the individual ranks. For example, a Sequence beats a Color.

How to Compare Hands in the Same Category

For Trails, compare the matching rank. For Pairs, compare the pair first, then the remaining card if necessary. For Color and High Card, compare the highest card, then the next, continuing until a difference appears.

Practise comparing two hands slowly. Name the category aloud before looking for the deciding card. This makes your reasoning easier to explain and check.

Where Does A-2-3 Rank?

Pagat’s traditional rules place A-2-3 above A-K-Q for both sequence categories. However, do not assume that every app or table follows that convention. Confirm the sequence order in your chosen ruleset. K-A-2 is not a valid sequence under that reference.

Keep ace examples on a separate practice sheet and label the rule convention you are using.

Common Learning Mistakes

When studying the chart, avoid judging a hand by one impressive-looking card. Read all three ranks and suits, identify the pattern, and then return to the category order.

Keep illustrations from different variants separate. A screenshot without its mode name and rules may leave out information needed for a comparison.

A Simple Practice Exercise

Write each category on a small reference card. Create an example, describe its ranks and suits, and explain why you assigned that label. Then change one card and inspect the result again.

Once you can recognise the categories comfortably, practise comparisons within a category. Check uncertain cases against the exact rules rather than guessing.
